I.T. consultancy at terminal velocity.

Terminal Velocity is an independent Aotearoa/New Zealand I.T. consultancy covering Linux & Unix systems, data analysis, web performance and app development - grounded in an academic background of remote sensing/GIS and biological sciences.

capabilities - v1.0

01 / systems

>Linux & Unix

Administration, automation and performance tuning - servers, storage and shells kept sharp, observable and quietly reliable.

02 / analysis

>Data analysis

From raw, messy telemetry to defensible conclusions: pipelines, statistics and visualisation with academic rigour attached.

03 / performance

>Web performance

Full-stack performance engineering for large organisations - from single-user traces to load testing at scale, instrumenting and analysing data from every layer of modern, complex web platforms.

04 / build

>App development

Native iOS development, end to end: Swift and SwiftUI apps designed, built and shipped to the App Store in-house.

Hachure

Look at the whole raster, not a picture of it. A macOS workstation for quantitative remote sensing - composites and spectral indices, radiometric and topographic correction, change detection, terrain analysis and classification.

Sentinel-2 true colour over Whanganui Inlet The same scene as a colour-infrared composite
SpearSight app icon
[ in development / ios ]

SpearSight

Finds fish underwater and measures them. Synchronised wide and ultra-wide frames give a stereo baseline, solved for refraction at the housing port - and every length is reported with the uncertainty attached, never as a bare number.

Inkspector app icon
[ in development / ios ]

Inkspectr

Footprint identification for New Zealand tracking tunnel cards. Photograph a Black Trakka card and the app finds it, measures the prints in real millimetres and returns a ranked shortlist with the evidence for and against each candidate - and reports a set too obscure to identify as unidentified, rather than guessing at it.

Rose app icon
[ coming soon / ios ]

Rose

A radial portrait of a song. On-device analysis reads a track's harmony, rhythm and dynamics and draws the whole of it as a single ring - and no two songs draw the same one.

FreSCo app icon
[ in development / ios ]

FreSCo

The iOS app for FutureSelves, Paul Englert and Geoff Plimmer's possible-selves career instrument. It administers their item bank, redraws the printed report's four graphs as one map with the present self fixed warm at the centre, and adds a consultant - Apple's on-device Foundation Models, grounded in a bundled research corpus - that reads the graphs back to you.

MeToo app icon
[ in development / ios ]

MeToo

Makes a complete group photo from two captures. ARKit remembers where the first photographer stood and walks the second one back to that viewpoint; Vision registers the two frames, works out who is new, and composites them into the original picture. No face print ever leaves the device.

Mohua app icon
in development · ios

Mohua

On-device birdsong recognition for Aotearoa. DeepMind's Perch 2.0 converted to Core ML, its classifier narrowed to the 215 birds you can actually hear here - plus twelve non-bird classes, so the app can also say what is drowning them out.
